5 mistakes to avoid in your kitchen design

The kitchen is one of the most important places in our home. Whether it is to prepare a snack or a complete three-course dinner: all in all we spend quite some time behind the counter. It is therefore important that the kitchen is not only beautiful but also practical.

There are a number of mistakes that you have to avoid in order to be able to use the kitchen optimally 'with full enthusiasm'. We list them below.

1. The kitchen triangle
The kitchen triangle is of great importance for optimum work flow in the kitchen. The kitchen triangle? That is the space between the sink, the stove and the refrigerator in which you do most of the work. Free access is absolutely essential here. Whether you have a U-shaped or L-shaped kitchen: the legs  of this imaginary triangle cannot be too long or too short. If they are too long, cooking will become more tiring because you have to move too much. Too short is also not good because you then have too little room for maneuver and you and others get in the way.

2. Storage space
A coffee maker, a kitchen robot, a kettle, ... Handy appliances, but they take up some space. And even if you have a large worksheet, sometimes you want to keep everything neat and tidy. The problem is that those devices often do not have the easiest shape and / or dimensions to put them in a cupboard. Keep this in mind and provide cabinets that are long and deep enough! And you never have too much storage space. Consider, for example, the space above the refrigerator. Perhaps not the most accessible space, but ideal for storing things that you use less often.

3. Lighting
Don't underestimate the importance of good lighting in your kitchen! You should not only be able to taste but also see well when you stand behind the pots. You should provide three types of lighting for this . General, direct lighting above the places where you work. Practical lighting, for example in the cupboards. And finally atmospheric lighting to highlight that beautiful kitchen island.

4. Kitchen island
A kitchen island gives a luxurious and spacious appearance. However, it is not always wise to provide a kitchen island in the kitchen. For example due to lack of space. The island may be blocking the previously discussed kitchen triangle. The ideal island is at least 1.2 m to 1.5 m long and a good half meter deep, according to professionals. If you have a kitchen that is only 2 by 4 meters in size, then you immediately understand that it makes no sense. If you can, then of course you have a lot of extra storage options and work space. kitchen planner nz

5. Ventilation
Just like good lighting, good ventilation is also crucial in the kitchen. It is not really nice to be able to guess what was prepared the night before ... A good extractor has the task of briefly removing odors and vapors during cooking. But you must also regularly clean or replace the filters. Otherwise, those cooking smells will only continue to circulate, even if you have the hood on. Also opening the window ajar during and after cooking will ensure that the cooking odors disappear faster.
